Man pleads not guilty to using false identity on 2002 passport application
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A 54-year-old man accused of using a false identity to obtain a passport more than two decades ago pleaded not guilty in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday.
Deron Davis has been charged with making a false declaration to the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (PICA) in relation to a 2002 passport application. Court documents allege that Davis used the name Shawn Marcus Jones in the application, with the intention to deceive the agency.
During Tuesday’s hearing, a PICA representative presented passport application documents bearing the name Shawn Marcus Jones. In response, presiding judge Sanchia Burrell questioned Davis about his current appearance, asking when he had started wearing dreadlocks.
“Three years ago, Your Honour,” Davis replied.
“This low-haired man is you. Yes, this is you,” Judge Burrell remarked, referring to the photo on the application.
Despite the identification, Davis maintained his plea of not guilty.
The matter is set to go to trial, with a case management hearing scheduled for November 13, 2025, when his attorney is expected to be present.
