Peri Peri Grill Makes Hot Debut
Born from a shared vision of three friends, Peri Peri Grill is now serving up street food with a fiery kick at 82 Lady Musgrave Road, next to Kaya Herb House. Launched last June, the food truck is the brainchild of 20-year-old principals, Alexander Bicknell, Tobias Levy and Khrish Chatani. Their secret weapon? The signature Peri Peri hot sauce, made from the intensely hot Bird’s Eye chilli pepper, a pepper with roots in Africa combined with Portuguese influences. Combining the Bird’s Eye chilli pepper with garlic, olive oil, vinegar, salt and other spices, Peri Peri is a bold sauce full of heat and flavour.
Just a few months ago, a casual car ride sparked an unexpected idea that has since blossomed into a successful food truck venture. “We came up with the idea out of nowhere, that we should start a food truck,” said Bicknell. “We’ve learned a lot about the restaurant business, perfected our food, and everyone’s been giving us great reviews.”
Their menu features an exciting range of Peri Peri delights, paired with a selection of Peri Peri sauces ranging from mild to hot, depending on your preference. Among the array of offerings include loaded Peri Peri fries, wings with the signature Peri Peri ranch sauce, Peri Peri rice bowl, and the flame-grilled Peri Peri chicken. This journey has been incredibly rewarding for the young entrepreneurs, who brought in talented chefs Shaday Ellis, Nicholas Sankar, Lavado Graham, and Natalie Linton to help curate the menu. Together, they’ve crafted a unique line-up designed for Jamaicans to experience the Peri Peri sauce in various delicious combinations.
As Levy explained, “We want to give the Jamaican people a feel of the Peri Peri sauce and taste it. It’s very spicy and strong, so you can combine it with chicken, rice, and fries.”
Chatani also highlighted the relaxed ambiance as crucial for creating a space where patrons could lyme and truly savour the experience.
“We wanted to go with a Miami food truck vibe, where people can come in, listening to music, lyme, eat and have a good time,” Chatani said.
