Time to unite for stability
Dear Editor,
The pending general election is soon to become a reality, and both parties, I believe, from supporters to their leaders, are majoring in the minor, to the extent that this tearing down of each other’s posters could get out of hand, leading to serious consequences.
This tearing down of posters is of no moment. It can’t help them win the election. They must stop this crazy, juvenile behaviour and deal with the real issues.
It doesn’t help either when commentators and media practitioners are predicting bloodletting and murder. Shouldn’t we all try to encourage the very pleasant and pleasing scenes of seeing orange and green, Labourites and Comrades joking and having fun together during the last few elections held. It shows that the voters are developing a sense of maturity and understanding that it does not make sense for them to be at war with each other. All that matters is that when they go to exercise their franchise they choose wisely and vote for the party they think will best attend to their needs.
For politicians to try to buy votes is a gross sign of disrespect, because if they were representing the people well, they would never have to buy votes.
Don’t let them use and abuse you! They must show respect and not treat us as second- and third-class citizens in our own country. And please don’t allow those politicians with evil and sinister intent to use or arm you to go out and inflict harm on your brethren and sistren; we are one Jamaica.
Stand up for a peaceful and violence-free Jamaica!
