Over 100 Scotia volunteers participated in the Jamaica Cancer Society’s Relay for Life at the Police Officers’ Club in St Andrew, supporting cancer awareness and prevention. Scotia Jamaica Life Insurance Company contributed $2 million as a platinum sponsor to fund education, early detection, and treatment support across Jamaica. The Relay for Life is a 12-hour team relay symbolising the fight against cancer, involving community and corporate groups. Scotia’s event booth featured activities like an inspirational mural and refreshments from DeafCan, fostering a positive atmosphere.
Debra Spence, president of Scotia Jamaica Life Insurance, highlighted their CritiCare product providing affordable coverage for critical illnesses, including cancer, aligning with efforts to increase access to screenings and education for priority cancers such as breast, prostate, cervical, and colorectal. Roshane Reid Koomson of the Jamaica Cancer Society praised Scotia’s ongoing support, emphasising the importance of early detection in saving lives. Relay for Life also honours survivors, remembers those lost, and empowers those currently battling cancer, reinforcing community solidarity against the disease.
