Heavy rains kill at least 30 in Guinea since late June
CONAKRY, Guinea (AFP) – At least 30 people have died in flooding from heavy rainfall in Guinea’s capital and surrounding areas since late June, according to a new government toll released Friday.
The National Agency for Emergency and Humanitarian Disaster Management (ANGUCH) said that 15 people died Wednesday night, upping a prior toll of seven.
The 15 latest deaths come on top of another 15 the agency reported since June 28 in the west African country.
In addition, three people are missing in the latest round of flooding, ANGUCH said.

“The city of Conakry experienced severe flooding, resulting in loss of life and significant material damage”, ANGUCH reported.
The latest increase was caused by “flash floods, house collapses, landslides and flooding of several neighbourhoods”, the agency said, adding that several families were “surprised while they slept by the waters.”
