Pack Plays outpaces rivals in BGLC feature
The four-year-old American-bred dark bay/brown colt Pack Plays once again showcased his exceptional speed and dominance, outpacing his rivals with ease in the $1.7-million Betting, Gaming, and Lotteries Commission (BGLC) Trophy feature at Caymanas Park on Friday.
Pack Plays, owned by Vincent Maine and trained by Ricardo Mathie, cruised to a 1 ½ length victory under Richie Shakes in the Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over five-and-a-half furlongs (1,100m).
Pack Plays got off to a good start and quickly surged to the front approaching the half-mile turn (800m). As the field approached the distance,
Pack Plays injected pace and pulled away from his rivals in deep stretch to secure a convincing win. Mojito (Raddesh Roman) was second and Mahogany (Dane Dawkins) finished third. The winning time was 1:06.4.
Trainer Anthony Nunes and jockeys Robert Halledeen and Raddesh Roman won two races each on the nine-race card.
Nunes saddled Eazy Peazy (Roman) in the fourth race and Another One (Dick Cardenas) in the seventh race.
In addition to Eazy Peazy, Roman won aboard Storm for trainer Adrian Prince in the ninth and final event.
Halledeen’s winners were Noble Sovereign in the third race for trainer Donavan Clarke and Legal Fight for trainer Patrick Lynch in the sixth race.
Horse racing is to continue on Saturday with the $3.75-million Jamaica Oaks Classic race.
