Ubuntu Ascendancy celebrates growth, community impact
The company, whose chief executive officer is Jamaican Chandi Lewis, was founded in November 2023. Ugandan Tumukunde Biryomumaisho serves as the chief operating officer, while Nigerian Brian Ani is the chief financial officer.
“One of our proudest achievements is the role we’ve played in helping underserved business and clients screenings and resources. We’ve successfully partnered with the state government. and as well as very many local and international business,” Biryomumaisho told the Jamaica Observer.
Adding that they have also managed to expand their team to 21 employees, thereby promoting job opportunities within the community—as well as earning almost US$1 million in revenue this year—the COO is pleased with the partnerships that they have formed along the way.
“(Another achievement has been) having multiple contractors which means that we are trusted in our area. Including the state government, which has trusted us with helping people in marginalised communities,” Lewis said.
The backgrounds of the executive body have so far been the perfect balance to yield additional success.
“Our roots and background have instilled in us a strong sense of community, resilience, and purpose all of which drive the mission behind Ubuntu Ascendancy,” Lewis added.
Lewis is a past student of Denbigh High School in Clarendon, as well as DeVry University in California. Biryomumaisho attended Greenhill Academy in Uganda and Pierce College in the United States, while Ani is an alumnus of Leuzinger High School and Western Governors University.
In the meantime, CEO Lewis gave insight into the intricate process of the industry and how the team tackles each task.
“It’s not easy. Navigating government contracts, aligning with public health goals, and earning the trust of marginalised communities all come with their challenges. But we overcome them through persistence, deep community engagement, and a commitment to staying grounded in our mission. We also prioritise collaboration. we don’t just market to communities, we work with them,” he said.
With the company about to hit their two-year mark, there are already big plans to expand the brand, its locations and impact.
