Darby celebrates 500th career win
Trainer Ryan Darby stole the spotlight at the races, marking a historic milestone with his 500th career win on the 10-race card at Caymanas Park on Saturday.
Darby’s landmark came in the $1.05-million Beverly Rhoden Memorial Cup, a Maiden Condition Race for native-bred three-year-old fillies over five-and-a-half furlongs (1,100m) with All Together, ridden by apprentice jockey Demar Williams. All Together, who delivered a half-length victory over Miss Braeton and Dreamers’ Corner, stopped the clock in 1:10.1.
This achievement overshadowed Linguist’s victory in the $3.75-million Jamaica Oaks Classic, marking a memorable day for Darby.
Linguist, trained by Anthony Nunes and ridden by Dick Cardenas, won the native-bred three-year-olds Futurity contest over 10 furlongs by five lengths. She clocked 2:13.3 for the distance while beating Woman In Love and Pretty Perfect.
Linguist was the second winner on the day for Nunes, who saddled Dutchess (Raddesh Roman) in the Margaret Parchment Trophy earlier on the day.
In addition to Dutchess, Roman won aboard Tigray Express for trainer Peter-John Parsard in the fourth race and Oil Machine for Phillip Elliott to complete his hat-trick of wins.
Racing continues on Wednesday with the running of the $7.5-million Jamaica Derby Classic.
