Social media influencers Chiney K and Dan Dan to represent Jamaica in India
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Social media influencers Chiney K and Dan Dan have been selected to represent Jamaica as part of an exchange programme sponsored by the Government of India.
Chiney K and Dan Dan will leave Jamaica later this week for a two week visit to India aimed at bolstering cultural ties between India and the Caribbean region.
The exchange programme will see Chiney K, whose real name is Kerry-Ann Collins, visiting various iconic Indian landmarks like the Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, Red Fort, Qutub Minar, among others, as well as interacting with big names in the Indian social media space.
Basking in the excitement of her upcoming trip, Chiney K shared that the opportunity is one in which she is looking forward to and represents the growing power of influencers to enhance and showcase national values in a relatable, entertaining and engaging manner.
“I am excited again to be representing Jamaica on the international stage in my capacity as an influencer, it speaks to the growing impact of new media platforms, and the transformative power of the space to connect and build cross-cultural ties,” said Collins.
“Jamaica and India maintain good bilateral relations. Jamaica has a vibrant Indian diaspora as well as common linkages in terms of history, parliamentary democracy, membership in the Commonwealth – not to mention a love of cricket. And this programme is one that will further deepen our ties,” added Collins.
Collins further shared that it was not her first time visiting the Asian country, adding that India is the birthplace of her fast-selling hair growth oil, Joli Faire.
“My natural hair care journey actually began during my first visit to India. I was fascinated by the length and ayurvedic methods used for hair care,” said Collins.
“So yes, it is a return but it is also an opportunity, to see another side of India that I probably would have never been exposed to had it not been for this opportunity and I will be taking my supporters along with me, documenting my experience in India through my social media platforms (@chineykpopgirl) in a way that makes it feel like they’re right there with me and hopefully even inspire them to make the journey,” added Collins.
This is the second time ChineyK has been tapped to represent Jamaica on the international stage. In 2024, the influencer was selected to represent Jamaica in China.
Twenty influencers from all across the region, including Trinidad & Tobago, Panama, Brazil, Costa Rica, Guyana and Suriname, will be in India for its inaugural familiarisation visit for content creators from Latin American countries.
