Jamaica seeking consecutive wins at Concacaf Boys’ U-15 Championships
Group D leaders Jamaica will be going after back-to-back wins today when they play Aruba in the CONCACAF U-15 Boys’ Championships at Stadion CD Guillermo Trinidad in Aruba.
Both Jamaica and Curacao are on three points after wins against Belize and Aruba, respectively, on Monday; Jamaica holding the edge with a 2-0 win, while Curacao held on for a 1-0 victory, in the 70-minute games.
The group stage will end on Wednesday, with Jamaica facing Curacao and Aruba taking on Belize.
Goals from Kevaughn Halloway in the first minute of the game and second-half substitute Carlondo Morris, three minutes after he went on at the start of the second half, gave the Jamaican team a winning start.
Jamaica, which is being coached by Andrew Peart, took the lead almost from the kick-off as they went down the field and despite having his first shot blocked by goalkeeper Stephon Harris at his left post, Halloway was allowed a second chance at a loose ball and lashed it into the goal.
Kelvin Brown headed straight to Harris from close range in the 21st minute and two minutes later Davion Clarke’s shot from just inside the 18-yard box was steered wide for a corner.
Belize came close to levelling the scores just before the half time break but Jamaica’s defence, which was outstanding all game, saved the ball off the goal line.
Morris, who replaced Brown at the start of the second half, was well placed in the 38th minute to finish off a swift counter-attack, a long kick down field from goalkeeper Marcodean Spence sent Samuel Taylor through down the right wing before finding the striker with a cross.
Jamaica created a number of other scoring chances but a combination of good saves from Harris and unconvincing finishing robbed the Jamaicans of a bigger margin of victory.
