63rd ‘Jamaica Independence Madness’ set for today
MANCHESTER, Jamaica — The 63rd Jamaica Independence Madness celebration will feature a combination of attractions and competitions for residents of Edgewater, Manchester.
Set for August 6, the event is being held by the YJ Vybz/Jah Vybz Entertainment Centre & Gayle’s Wholesale, and the Cecelin Gayle Foundation.
“There will be a talent show, as well as a giveaway of $100,000 for the best dressed Jamaican colour car, and $50,000 for second place,” co-conceptualiser Cherry Marshall told Observer Online.
Hosted by Hype Type, there will also be a money grab machine, grab-bag, a motorcade and music by DJs Dan Fresh and Size Mik. Proceeds from this Independence Day celebration will go towards the Cecelin Gayle Foundation to purchase school supplies for students within the vicinity.
“We’re expecting a lot more people this year, and lots of food and drinks will be on sale. We have tents to rent for vendors who want to sell anything besides food,” Marshall added.
Marshall is also the co-owner of the Dutch Pot Jamaican Restaurant chain in Florida. She and her sister, Melony Gregory, are also business partners.
