WATCH: Port Antonio Independence Day parade underway
PORTLAND, Jamaica — The Independence Day parade in Port Antonio Square, Portland is currently underway.
In attendance are Portland Western and Eastern Members of Parliament, Daryl and Ann-Marie Vaz, along with Custos of Portland, Lincoln Thaxter, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ainsley McCarthy, and Isat Buchanan, the People’s National Party standard bearer for Portland Eastern. Several uniformed groups are also part of the event.
Spectators are enjoying lively performances from various bands, while traditional dancehall moves add to the festive atmosphere.
Across the country, parish galas are being held on Wednesday, August 6, as part of the nationwide Independence Day celebrations, culminating in the Grand Gala at the National Stadium.
