Young Reggae Boyz into Concacaf U15 semis
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s young Reggae Boyz qualified for Friday’s semi-finals of the Concacaf U15 Boys Championships in style after completing a historic first round with a dramatic 1-0 win over Curacao in the League B Group D game played at Stadion CD Guillermo Trinidad in Aruba on Wednesday.
Kelvin Brown’s time-added goal saw the Jamaicans win all three first-round games for the first time and kept “clean sheets” in all three games, also a first.
Jamaica had beaten Belize 2-0 in their opening game on Monday and then blanked hosts Aruba 4-0 on Tuesday.
They will meet the winner of Group E in Friday’s first knock-out stage.
The teams in Group E are Bermuda, Barbados, Antigua and Barbuda and Trinidad and Tobago.
On Wednesday, Jamaica dominated the possession and scoring chances but failed to beat goalkeeper Jean-Jacques Rigaud, who had an outstanding game.
Jamaica got a breakthrough in the first minute of time added when Davion Clarke’s shot from just inside the 18-yard box came back off the upright, and Brown was well placed to kick it back past Rigaud.
