Digicel Foundation targets digital literacy, silver economy in new Salute 21 Grants campaign
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Digicel Foundation officially kicked off its 2025 Salute 21 Grants campaign on Saturday, during the lively Pineapple Festival hosted by the Gordon Town Citizens Association.
This year’s initiative places a spotlight on digital literacy and the silver economy, aiming to empower senior citizens and close the digital divide in communities across Jamaica.
Now in its 21st year, the foundation is offering grants of up to $2.5 million to 17 community-based organisations, with one award designated for each parish and three additional grants earmarked for special needs projects.
Director of Strategic Planning and Community Development at the Digicel Foundation, Miguel “Steppa” Williams said the focus on senior citizens is both timely and necessary.
“The silver economy is growing, and our seniors deserve every opportunity to thrive in a connected world,” Williams stated. “We’re proud to support projects that make life better for older Jamaicans, whether through technology training or senior entrepreneurship programmes.”
He also stressed the broader goal of digital inclusion.
“In today’s world, digital literacy is very essential. These grants are about empowering people with the tools to participate meaningfully in today’s digital society. We want to see projects that make tech more accessible and inclusive, especially for those who’ve historically been left behind,” he added.
The campaign launch immersed the foundation in community spirit, with festival goers enjoying treats and cultural showcases. Attendees were invited to engage with foundation representatives, who provided guidance on the grant application process and advice for developing impactful proposals.
The application window runs from August 2 to September 2, 2025. Eligible groups include citizens associations, youth clubs, schools, farm associations, organisations supporting persons with special needs, and other non-profits.
To be considered, projects must demonstrate sustainability, measurable impact, and a clear alignment with the foundation’s mission.
Applications must be submitted online at https://www.digicelfoundation.org/jm/en/apply-for-a-grant/build-jamaica-grants.
