Jamaica into Concacaf Men’s U-15 Championship semis
Jamaica qualified for the semi-finals of the Concacaf Under-15 Boys Championships in style on Wednesday by completing a historic perfect first round of their League B Group D schedule with a dramatic 1-0 win over Curacao at Stadion CD Guillermo Trinidad in Aruba.
Kelvin D Brown’s added time goal saw the Jamaicans win all three first-round games for the first time and also keep clean sheets in all three games, also a first.
Jamaica topped the table with maximum nine points after they had beaten Belize 2-0 in their opening game on Monday and then blanked hosts Aruba 4-0 on Tuesday, all games played at the same venue and matches the highest number of goals Jamaica has scored in the group stages of a Concacaf Men’s U-15 Championship. The last time Jamaica did this was in the Cayman Islands in 2013.
The young Reggae Boyz will meet the winner of Group E in the semi-final on Friday.
Also on Wednesday, Aruba won their first game of the group stage, edging 10-man Belize 1-0 as the other three teams all ended on three points.
Jamaica dominated the possession and scoring chances against an inspired Curacao but failed to get the better of goalkeeper Jean-Jacques Rigaud who had an outstanding game in the regulation 70 minutes.
The Jamaican coaching staff made six second-half substitutions and that eventually bore fruit as the team eventually got the breakthrough in the first minute of time added on.
A shot from just inside the 18 yards box on the left side from Davion Clarke came back off the upright and Brown was well placed to finish past Rigaud.
