NADB boss gives thumbs up to Senior Citizens Domino Tournament
Humbert
Davis, president of the National Association of Domino Bodies (NADB), says the 2025 National Council for Senior Citizens Domino Tournament continues to excite and exceed expectations with numerous people taking part.
“The tournament has been a huge success, and we’re thrilled to see so many seniors participating. It’s a great way to promote social interaction, cognitive stimulation, and friendly competition among our seniors,” Davis told the
Jamaica Observer.
The tournament’s second phase, held at Bustamante High School in Lionel Town, Clarendon, on Tuesday, saw Gilbert Thomas and Gifford Michel emerge victorious. Thomas and Michel were presented with medals, trophies, and a championship trophy named in honour of George Smith, a domino icon.
Davis praised the winners, saying: “Gilbert and Gifford demonstrated exceptional skill and strategy, outmanoeuvring their opponents with ease. They’re a credit to the sport, and we’re proud to see them excel.”
Davis also highlighted the importance of dominoes for seniors.
“Dominoes is more than just a game; it’s a way to keep the mind active, build relationships, and have fun. We’re committed to promoting the sport and providing opportunities for seniors to engage in activities that benefit their mental and social well-being,” Davis noted.
The tournament’s success has sparked interest in future events, with Davis expressing enthusiasm for what’s to come.
“We’re already planning for the next phase, and we’re excited to see what the future holds for our seniors. We’ll continue to work hard to ensure that dominoes remains a popular and enjoyable activity for all participants,” he said.
Parish Officer Toshane Young praised the event’s organisation and enthusiasm.
“The competition was wonderful. The day started out slow, but it picked up and ended well. The rest of the parishes have something to live up to — Clarendon was wonderful, we had a lot of fun. It was well done, and it was another good collaboration between the National Council for Senior Citizens and the National Association of Domino Bodies,” Young said.
Phase three of the tournament will take place at Golden Age Home in Vineyard Town, Kingston 3, on August 12.
