Momentum is with the JLP, declares Holness over large turnout at rally
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Prime Minister Andrew Holness says Sunday’s massive turnout of Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters for a rally in Half-Way Tree square is a signal that the momentum is with the governing party heading into the General Election.
Addressing the crowd for the first time on Sunday night, Holness admitted that he was “overwhelmed” by the turnout.
In fact, he said the crowd in Half-Way Tree was larger than the crowd which gathered for a similar mass meeting there in 2016, when the party was in Opposition.
“It is an important point to make because governments in their second term usually lose momentum, but what is clear from tonight is that the momentum is with the Jamaica Labour Party!” Holness suggested.
“The momentum is obviously born of hard work, but it is also born of the relevance of policies of the party, it is born of the legitimacy of the government. It is clear that the people of Jamaica, regardless of their political persuasion, have to agree that the Jamaica Labour Party is a performing government – a government that has delivered!” Holness said.
The prime minister is expected to name the date of the next General Election at the end of his speech.
