WATCH: Campbell says PNP to unveil manifesto shortly, suggests election date
KINGSTON, Jamaica – General Secretary of the People’s National Party (PNP), Dr Dayton Campbell has confirmed that the party has completed its manifesto and is prepared to unveil it to the public in the coming days.
Speaking at the PNP’s parish meeting held in Port Antonio Square on Saturday, Dr Campbell emphasised that the party has done the necessary groundwork and is ready to present its vision for Jamaica’s future.
“We have sat and we have done the work to put the plans together. We will release the manifesto and you will see,” he said.
Dr Campbell suggested that the JLP would criticise the PNP about funding for its plans. In an attempt to counter that argument, he took jabs at Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton about his funding for a project.
“We know what they will say, ‘how much this cost’ … go ask Tufton how him break ground for $14.2 billion project that not in him budget. When you ask him that you can come ask us about cost. A government will determine their priorities and the PNP will prioritise the people of this country,” he added.
He also used the platform to suggest tentative dates for the election while calling on the Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness, leader of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), to announce the date for the polls as well as nomination.
“If they don’t call it, we ago call it. The people ago call it. So mista prime minister, take e mic tomorrow night. Tell the people of the country seh nomination day is August 18th and election day is September 3. Call the election so that Mark Golding can become prime minister,” declared Dr Campbell.
The JLP is expected to reveal the official date for the general election on Sunday during a public meeting in Half-Way Tree, St. Andrew.
