Antonio Watson wins in Sweden
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s World Athletics Championships defending champion, Antonio Watson, ran a season’s best 45.21 seconds in the men’s 400m at Sunday’s Folksam Grand Prix, Sollentunavallen, Sollentuna in Sweden.
He lowered his season’s best from the 45.24 seconds he ran at the Ed Murphey Classic in Memphis, Tennessee, on July 12. It was Watson’s second race in four days. He had run 46.07 seconds at a low-key meet in Watford, England
Qatar’s Ibrahim Yahya was second in a season’s best 45.28 seconds, with Norway’s Havard Bentdal Ingvaldsen placing third in 45.77 seconds.
Odaine McPherson placed second in the men’s 100m, running 10.19 seconds (-0.6m/s) after he had run 10.27 seconds (1.4m/s) in the first round.
South Africa’s Gift Leotlea won with 10.15 seconds, with Sweden’s Henrik Larsson third with 10.27 seconds.
Danniel Thomas-Dodd was third in the women’s shot put with 18.58m, behind the Swedish pair of Fanny Roos-18.86m and Axelina Johansson- 18.59m.
A day earlier, she had thrown 19.22m to win at the Meeting of Bialystok and Podlasie Sports Ambassadors 2025 in Poland, two days after she had thrown 19.02m at a meet in Serbia.
There were wins for Sandrey Davison in the men’s 60m and Kadrian Goldson in the men’s 100m, while Kemba Nelson was second in the women’s 100m.
Davison ran 6.58 seconds (-0.1m/s) in his first 60m race, beating Kadrian Goldson (6.60 seconds) and Julian Forte, who clocked 6.61 seconds.
Goldson won the 100m in 10.17 seconds (-0.2m/s) after he had run 10.27 seconds in the first round, beating Davison (10.23 seconds), while Forte was sixth in 10.30 seconds and Sachin Dennis seventh in 10.32 seconds.
Nelson ran 11.30 seconds (-0.1m/s) to finish behind Ewa Freedom (Swoboda) of Poland, who won with 11.22 seconds.
Lafranz Campbell was third in the 110m hurdles, running 13.57 seconds (-0.1m/s) as South Africa’s John Adesola won with 13.39 seconds, with Poland’s Jakub Szymanski third with 13.44 seconds, while Tyler Mason was eighth with 14.17 seconds.
