Boat captain charged in gun and ammunition seizure
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — A Westmoreland boat captain has been arrested and charged after he was allegedly caught with a firearm and ammunition on Monday.
Charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition is 37-year-old Javin Grant, otherwise called “Jah Vinci” of Long Pond, Little London.
Reports from the Savanna-la-Mar police are that about 7:35 pm, Grant, who was driving a grey Honda motorcar along Ferris main road in the parish, was signalled to stop by lawmen at a vehicular check point to which he complied.
The vehicle was searched, and a Kel-Tec pistol with a magazine containing five .380 rounds was allegedly found inside.
He was arrested and taken into custody, where he was charged with the offence shortly after.
His court date is being finalised.
