Campion College embarks on journey of giving
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Foregoing the typical festivities of a class party, students of Campion College recently concluded an end-of-year outreach initiative which saw them donating essential supplies to Maxfield Park Children’s Home and Glenhope Place of Safety.
The outreach initiative, which was held on Thursday, June 26, 2025, was borne out of a collective desire to end the school year with meaning, centred on four clear objectives — to encourage civic-mindedness, to provide tangible support to children in care, to create joyful experiences, and to nurture a culture of empathy within the school community.
Under the guidance of form teacher Gillian Rampair and the assistance of sixth formers Aidan Rampair and Aiden Bernard, the students donated clothes, toys, books and other essential supplies, largely from their personal belongings and purchases made using their savings.
Rampair reflected, “This initiative was truly student-led, and that’s what made it so powerful. They weren’t just participating, they were leading with purpose, with empathy and with heart. Watching them plan, collaborate and give so generously reminded me that the most important lessons often happen outside the classroom.”
“What moved me the most was how intentional the students were. They didn’t see this as a task, but as a calling. Every child we met at Maxfield and Glenhope felt the warmth of their compassion. I could not be prouder of what they achieved.”
“This wasn’t about charity, it was about connection, about seeing and valuing the humanity in others. It was a reminder to us all that kindness is transformative,” she continued.
Several corporate partners supported the initiative including Woman’s Touch Jamaica Limited, Virginia Dare Jamaica Limited, Purity Jamaica Limited, Continental Bakery, KFC, Bird Shack, and Caribbean Cream.
“We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors, whose generosity added so much to the day,” said Lilieth Douglas, Campion College’s Home School Association (HAS) parent representative. “Their support helped us offer not just donations, but a full experience, one filled with warmth, dignity and joy.”
“The day was a moving and memorable experience, not only for the children at the homes but for the students themselves. It provided a lens into lives too often overlooked and a profound opportunity to give with grace and humility.
“The initiative reflects the very core of Campion College’s mission to cultivate young leaders who excel academically while embodying deep compassion and social consciousness. It affirms that service is not a supplement to education, but a fundamental pillar in shaping character. This initiative exemplifies what is possible when education and empathy walk hand in hand,” she continued.
Michael Clarke, assistant manager at the Glenhope Place of Safety, expressed deep appreciation for the visit and reflected on the impact on the children in residence.
“The initiative left us feeling very special and valued. The life changing memories created will be cherished by the children. It was a moment of hope and joy that profoundly impacted their lives,” he said.
