Jamaica First Movement and Jamaica Progressive Party join forces to contest Sept 3 election
Jamaica First Movement (JFM), a political advocacy group headed by by prominent clergyman Rev Al Miller, has joined forces with the Jamaica Progressive Party (JPP) to contest the September 3 general election.
Both entities have described the collaboration as “historic”.
In a joint statement, they explained that the move was aimed at “breaking decades of political impasse and voter apathy”.
Under the agreement, the JPP will operate within the JFM’s “Special Purpose Vehicle,” for what they say is the sole mission of contributing to the principle of national unity for a single five-year term.
The collaboration is a direct response to what the leaders call a national cry for a new path forward, one that moves beyond the divisive politics of the past and focuses exclusively on rebuilding the nation, the statement said.
“For too long, our people have been asked to choose between two sides of the same coin, while the country continues to lose,” said Miller, chairman of the JFM.
“This is not about creating another party for retaining power. This is about patriots from all walks of life putting their differences aside for five years to do one job: repair the foundation of this nation and set new paradigms for our children. We are answering the call of the Jamaican people for change,” Miller explained.
President of the JPP, Gilbert Edwards, echoed the sentiment, framing the alliance as a “necessary act of national service”.
Said Edwards, “The JPP and the JFM are now one team, united to reset Jamaica’s political atmosphere and put country first. Together, we choose unity over division, purpose over power… and the people above all else.”
According to Edwards, “This powerful alliance leverages the unique strengths of both organisations – JFM with its visionary outlook to build the new Jamaica, and JPP, which shares the vision and provides the political machinery as a registered party to satisfy electoral requirements.
“This alliance enables the team to field candidates in all constituencies across the island, ensuring that every Jamaican has the opportunity to vote for bold transformation”.
Edwards framed the collaboration as “the last call for patriotic Jamaicans, those who are ready to serve their country with integrity and purpose, to come forward for one term, one mission, and one Jamaica”.
According to him, “the mission is simple; win the election, heal the nation, and build a new Jamaica”.
The parties are urging Jamaicans who are ready for a new choice to visit www.jamaica1st.org to learn more, sign the official covenant, and join the movement.
