Husband fined, wife freed of charges in 892 pound ganja bust
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Robert Mahoney was on Tuesday slapped with fines amounting to just over $1.5 million after pleading guilty to ganja related charges stemming from an incident last year.
His wife, who was jointly charged, was found not guilty.
Mahoney was fined $15,000 for possession of ganja; $1 million for dealing in ganja or three months in prison, and $500,000 or three months in prison for using a premises for the storage of ganja.
The fines stem from a November 30, 2024, incident in which a team from the Firearms and Narcotics Investigations Division of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) headed to a house owned by the couple.
The property was searched and 50 carton boxes containing 892 pounds of ganja were found.
Both husband and wife were on bail until the matter ended on Tuesday.
They were represented by attorney-at-law Chadwick Berry and Christopher Townsend.
