KD Knight’s attorney calls for Tufton to issue apology, retract attribution of voice note to his client
KINGSTON, Jamaica—Attorney representing prominent attorney KD Knight, Bert Samuels, is demanding that Minister of Health and Wellness Dr Christopher Tufton retract the attribution of a voice note played at the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) mass rally which, he said then, featured Knight saying that Opposition Leader Mark Golding should never be prime minister of Jamaica.
Knight’s attorney is also requesting that Tufton, who is the JLP campaign committee chairman, issue a public apology.
Samuels, of Knight, Junior and Samuels law firm in letter addressed to Dr Tufton, on Wednesday, noted that the recording is a manipulated fabrication and is an attempt to maliciously attack the reputation of Knight and Golding.
He further noted that recording has also caused great harm to Knight’s reputation.
“Responsibility must be taken for the resulting defamation of our client. We now demand that you publicly retract the attribution of the manipulated audio recording to our client. We also request that the terms of your retraction and apology be agreed between your attorneys and our law firm and that same should be sent to all media houses and must be published on all the social media pages of the Jamaica Labour Party,” Samuels said.
While noting that the retraction and apology may operate to mitigate the damage caused to his client, Samuels noted that it will not waive the right to pursue legal recourse.
“Nevertheless, we are prepared to negotiate a settlement between your legal representatives and our law firm. We expect that the apology and retraction demanded will be agreed on or before Friday August 15, 2025, at 11:00 am,” he added.
