Fitz-Henley rubbishes PNP claims that JLP is delaying plans for national debates
KINGSTON, Jamaica- Chairman for the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Communication Taskforce, Senator Abka Fitz-Henley has cited “miscommunication concerning scheduling” for his party’s no-show at planning meetings with the Jamaica Debate Commission (JDC).
“As far as I am aware, earlier there was some miscommunication concerning scheduling,” Fitz Henley said.
“Today, our representative had an emergency and was unable to attend while other members of our team were participating in a media conference,” he added.
The Opposition People’s National Party ( PNP) earlier on Thursday, expressed concern over what it claimed are delays by the JLP in finalising arrangements for the upcoming national debates, set to begin next week.
The PNP in its statement had claimed that despite repeated confirmations, the governing party had missed two critical planning meetings with the JDC.
Fitz-Henley pointed out Thursday night, that “a meeting involving the JDC has been set for Friday morning and the Jamaica Labour Party will be represented.”
He described the concern raised by the PNP over his party’s absence at the meetings to finalise arrangements for the debates as “a dig for a story, ” and took a swipe at Dayton Campbell, the PNP’s general secretary.
“He [Campbell] appears to be searching for a political bounce, perhaps because his party has launched a rushed ‘copy and paste’ manifesto with about eight glaring spelling errors and over 20 instances of grammatical misadventure and the document has received a lukewarm response from the public,” said Fitz-Henley.
