Hopeton Lindo, Marcia Griffiths update A House is Not a Home
On his latest album, This Song’s For You, veteran singer Hopeton Lindo teams up with veteran reggae artiste Marcia Griffiths for a cover of the classic A House is Not a Home.
The track débuts at #24 on the South Florida Reggae chart. The song has a decorated history.
A House is Not a Home was written by the duo of Burt Bacharach and Hal David in 1964 for the film of the same name starring American actress Shelly Winters and actor Rod Taylor. The first version was recorded by Dionne Warwick, but it was included on the B-side to the popular single You’ll Never Get to Heaven (If You Break My Heart). However, it was Brooke Benton’s version that was included in the film, and which later peaked at #75 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Luther Vandross’s version of A House is Not a Home was not released commercially. It was included on his 1981 début album Never Too Much.
Still on the South Florida Reggae chart, Bring It On Home by Keith Cole spends a second week at #1, while 2 Times by Khago bolts from #8 to #5.
Jah Jah Give Us Life by Duane Stephenson steps up from #23 to #21.
On the New York Reggae chart, Better Than Before by Glen Washington takes the prize, moving into the top spot.
How Yuh Fi Fight Reggae Music by Sizzla and Bounty Killer moves into the #10 position, while Red Fox rises to #9 with Good with Jah.
Etana’s Kiss of Judah is new at #26 while Romantic by Lila Ike and Masicka débuts at #30.
Over on the Rebel Vibez Top Ten Canadian Reggae chart, More Reggae/Funk it Up by Ammoye featuring Samora is still #1, while Pressure by Gisto, Meds by Chizzy Bashment and Kris Gee, Feel the Flow by The Dub Chronicles, and Ready or Not by Jurney Star are #2, 3, 4 and 5, respectively.
Moving now to the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, after 291 non-consecutive weeks, Bob Marley and the Wailers continue to rule with Legend at #1.
Best of Shaggy: The Boombastic Collection by Shaggy is #2, while Dutty Classics Collection by Sean Paul re-enters at #3.
World on Fire by Stick Figure inches up to #4, while Greatest Hits by UB40 is at #5. Wisdom by Stick Figure is #6, Dutty Rock by Sean Paul steps up to #7, and Set in Stone by Stick Figure is #8.
Collection: 50th State of Mind by Fiji The Artiste drops from #3 to #9 and Welcome to Jamrock by Damian Marley remains at #10.
Global smash Shake it to the Max (fly) remix falls from #1 to #4 on Billboard’s Rhythmic Top 40 Airplay chart, while Sean Paul’s Ginger is steady at #22.
On Mainstream R&B/Hip Hop Airplay, Shake it to the Max (Fly) remix slides down from #13 to #16 having peaked at #3. Over on R&B/Hip Hop Digital Song Sales chart, it fares better, stepping up from #8 to #6. It, however, backtracks from #14 to #18 on R&B/Hip Hop Airplay and remains at #15 on Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs. On the Hot 100 chart the song slips three places down to #59, while improving from #37 to #30 on Pop Airplay.
Sugar Sweet by Mariah Carey featuring Shenseea and Khelani débuts at #40 on R&B/Hip Hop Airplay. It also enters Mainstream R&B/Hip Hop Airplay at #36. Sugar Sweet tumbles from #2 to #13 in its second week on R&B/Hip Hop Digital Song Sales chart and backtracks from #17 to #20 on Hot R&B Songs. Over on R&B Digital Song Sales, the song falls from #2 to #7.
