Local, international dancers set to excite at Plie’s Amalgamation/Ailey II in Revelations
Several dances will be showcased at Plie for the Arts Amalgamation’s Ailey/II in Revelations
on the last weekend in August at the Little Theatre.
According to Plie’s artistic director and Producer Marisa Benain, there’s a variety of dances that will appeal to every demographic.
“As our mantra states, there is a dance for everyone on Amalgamation. We have a variety of genres; some old, some new, and dances that will make you laugh and cry. The show represents a true amalgamation of the best in dance and choreography on one stage. We have over 45 dancers that make up the entire cast of elite dancers from around the world,” Benain told the Jamaica Observer on Friday.
Benain gave an insight into the different choreography that will be on show, which she says promises to thrill audiences.
“The performance of Alvin Ailey’s globally acclaimed work, Revelations, is a historical moment for Plie. It is the most-watched modern dance in history and will be performed for the first time in Jamaica in its entirety. Dwight Rhoden’s Ave Maria will be a definite show-stopper. Memoria will be absolutely beautiful. The truth is Amalgamation is a gala of hits for the entire family,” said Benain.
Some of the choreographers will include Renee McDonald, Orville McFarlane, Shahar Binyamini, Andrew Winghart, Dwight Rhoden, Jessica Lang, Paul Battle, and Steven Cornwall.
Benain spoke about the work that goes into the production.
“It’s almost a full year of planning and coordinating and curating this masterpiece of a gala. I continue to be thankful to my technical team, the dancers, the parents, the choreographers, and the sponsors. It is immense work, and I am fully aware I could not do it alone. There are a lot of moving parts, especially for the cargo for
Revelations to get around the region. The truth is if it was easy everyone would do it. We hope the entire Jamaica shows up to share this historical moment with us,” said Benain.
Internationally acclaimed Laurieann Boomkack Gibson will be the patron for Amalgamation.
The production starts at 7:30 pm on Saturday, August 30 and at 6:00 pm the following evening.
