Sagicor commits over $24m to shape Jamaica’s next generation of leaders
JUST over 182 Jamaican students will benefit from more than $24 million in scholarships from the Sagicor Foundation, including 55 new scholarship recipients.
The new awardees were announced at the annual awards ceremony, held on at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel on Tuesday. The milestone presentation, held in celebration of Sagicor Group Jamaica’s 55th anniversary, underscores the group’s continued investment in nation-building through education.
Sagicor Foundation — the charitable arm of Sagicor Group Jamaica — has been awarding scholarships for over three decades, benefiting thousands of students across the island. In the past decade alone, the programme has disbursed over $100 million in secondary and tertiary scholarships to students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, community involvement, and financial need.
In 2024, the foundation introduced two special awards, the R Danny Williams Visionary Award for Leadership and Volunteerism, and the Chairman’s Innovation Award, which recognises creative and tech-driven problem-solving.
This year Calicia Vassell was the recipient of the R Danny Williams Visionary Award for Leadership and Volunteerism while James Barrett was the recipient of the Chairman’s Innovation Award.
