Cop suspected of misconduct taken into custody
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A 22-year-old police constable of the Hunts Bay Police Station was taken into custody on Thursday after he allegedly reported for duty in possession of two plastic bags with assorted contraband.
According to reports, the constable, who was detailed to work a shift beginning Thursday, August 14, 2025 at 6:00 pm, arrived at the station in possession of two plastic bags, which he placed on a metal table near the entrance to the lockup cells.
Another constable on duty reportedly noticed the bags and brought them to the attention of a supervisor.
A search of the two plastic bags was conducted in the presence of the suspect, which revealed vegetable matter resembling ganja, vegetable matter resembling tobacco, an assorted quality of rizzlers, eight lighters, two mobile phone chargers, one plastic bottle containing what appeared to a clear liquid substance, believed to be rum, one tube of lightening gel, one packet of bio gel brightening gel and one cellular phone.
A file is to be submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for a ruling. The DPP rules on whether lawmen can be charged in certain cases.
