Kemba runs first sub-11 seconds in three years
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Kemba Nelson ran a sub-11.00-second time over the 100m for the first time since 2022 on her way to winning the women’s 100m at Friday’s International North Thuringian Athletics Meeting in Sondershausen, Germany, a World Athletics Continental Tour- Challenger meet.
The World Athletics Championships relay medalist qualified for the final after she ran 10.99 seconds (1.2m/s) in the first round before returning a few hours later to win the final in 11.07 seconds (0.5m/s).
Nelson went into the meet with a season’s best 11.21 seconds in the 100m and finished ahead of the German pair of Sina Mayer- 11.18 seconds and Alexandra Burghardt 11.25 seconds.
Meanwhile, Sandrey Davison and Odaine McPherson were both credited with the same time, 10.08 seconds (05/s) as they were second and third respectively in the men’s 100m.
Benjamin Azamati of Ghana won with 10.02 seconds (0.5m/s) while a third Jamaican, Sachin Dennis was disqualified for a false start.
In the first round, McPherson ran 10.06 seconds (1.1m/s), Davison- 10.07 seconds (0.5m/s) and Dennis- 10.16 seconds (0.9m/s).
Candice McLeod was fourth in the women’s 400m in a season’s best 51.80 seconds.
