Partial postal services to resume in Negril on August 15
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Partial postal services will be restored to Negril, Westmoreland, starting Friday, August 15, following the temporary closure of the Negril Post Office last year.
The phased restoration will see services offered two days a week, Mondays and Fridays from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm, at the Negril Police Station. The first phase will cover Programme of Advancement Through Health and Education (PATH) and pension disbursements, with traditional postal services such as registered Mail, ordinary mail, and commercial options, including Zip mail deliveries, to follow the next week.
The Negril Post Office was closed on July 23, 2024, due to urgent health and safety concerns linked to the building’s long-term deterioration. In the interim, operations were relocated to the Little London and Sheffield post offices.
“We recognise the inconvenience the relocation has caused and remain committed to restoring services in a way that safeguards the well-being of staff and customers,” said Saunders-Hammond, senior director, corporate services at the Post and Telecommunications Department (PTD).
Plans are also underway to move operations to the Negril Marine Park headquarters, pending statutory and property-related approvals from the National Land Agency (NLA). Once approved, the PTD will resume its standard operating hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Mondays to Fridays.
In addition, arrangements are being finalised for a postman to provide delivery services to the Negril community twice weekly. The PTD said it remains committed to securing approvals to begin renovation works on the original Negril Post Office building.
The department thanked the Negril community for its patience and said further updates will be shared through official channels as each phase of the restoration progresses.
