WATCH: PNP caretaker promises land title, better water access for St Thomas Eastern residents
KINGSTON, Jamaica — People’s National Party (PNP) caretaker for St Thomas Eastern, Yvonne Rose Shaw, has promised to secure land titles for residents of an informal settlement in the constituency and to address long-standing water challenges in the area.
Shaw, who was speaking during the PNP’s tour of St Thomas on Friday, said the move was aimed at giving residents “a decent life” and a sense of identity.
“It has been a long time coming. I have worked tirelessly in this constituency for the betterment of our people,” she said. “Over there by the fort, there is an informal settlement and we are going to make sure that we secure the security of tenure to allow the people to live a decent life by giving them their land title and make them be somebody.”
She also raised concerns about the community’s unreliable water supply, noting that “sometimes they turn on their taps (and) they can’t get to bathe.”
Shaw ended her address by thanking supporters for what she described as their “vote of confidence.”
