Marks ‘saddened’ after fatal stabbing near campaign office
JLP caretaker rejects report that incident occurred at political meeting
MANCHESTER, Jamaica – Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) caretaker for Manchester North Eastern, Ambassador Audrey Marks says she is saddened by a fatal stabbing incident which occurred in the constituency on Friday night.
The deceased has been identified as Andrew Hendricks. He was reportedly stabbed to death during a dispute he had with another man in the Sedburgh area of Christiana in the vicinity of the Jamaica Labour Party’s constituency campaign office.
“I am saddened by the incident and express condolences to the family of Mr Hendricks. The police are investigating,” Marks said, adding “As a society, we have to continue to work on finding ways to get our brothers and sisters to resolve conflict in more peaceful ways.”
Marks commented further that, “I can confirm that contrary to social media reports, the incident did not occur at a Jamaica Labour Party meeting. I also urge persons who is so minded to resist any urge to politicise the incident. Reports are that this unfortunate outcome where a life was lost is the result on an ongoing personal dispute.”
Preliminary reports are that an argument began between Hendricks and another man during a domino game. The argument escalated into a fight. A knife was drawn and both men were reportedly hurt.
Hendricks was rushed to the Percy Junor Hospital where he succumbed.
