PNP’s Joseph Witter wants to erase stigma in West Kingston
KINGSTON, Jamaica– People’s National Party (PNP) caretaker for Kingston Western, Joseph Witter, says he wants to bring a fresh approach to leadership in the constituency considered a Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) stronghold, resulting in meaningful transformation there.
“I want to bring a whole range of different approach. We tired of hearing about inner city and ghetto. We tired of the type of relationship with the police and the community. We tired of people seeking jobs and being turned back because of their address,” said Witter at the PNP’s Kingston and St Andrew parish meeting underway in Cross Road, St Andrew.
The politician expressed the desire to become a Member of Parliament (MP) for Kingston Western that represents “every single soul” that resides there, and not an MP for a few.
JLP Deputy Leader Desmond McKenzie is the MP for Kingston Western and is not expected to lose the seat in the September 3 General Election.
Still, a confident Witter said he wants to bring “a different ideology and culture” where the people of Kingston Western can live without fear or favour.
“I want a West Kingston where people can move from the west to the east, from the north to the south without any fear or any favour. I want to erase the stigma of an imaginary boundary and if you cross that boundary, you’re in problem. I want to bring that to a close,” he said.
“I want a West Kingston where people can live, raise their children, and do business and be proud to live in West Kingston. I want a West Kingston that will be driven by education, that will be driven by entrepreneur(ship),” Witter stated.
Should he win the next election, the PNP caretaker said he hopes to bring initiative to end the generational poverty in the constituency.
