Yung Bredda determined to ride wave of success
Budding soca star says he’s hungry for more
In 2021, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Trinidadian soca star Yung Bredda, like many others, took advantage of the increased use of social media to further his music career. During that time, a video of him freestyling went viral, kick-starting what has now become a budding career.
Today, with a massive soca hit under his belt, the young star says he’s hungry for even more success.
In a recent interview with the Jamaica Observer the singer said that, while he always imagined himself having a successful career, he did not predict the wave he is currently riding.
Greatest Bend Ova, the soca single that thrust him deep into the spotlight when it became an overnight hit, has now been remixed with the addition of Grammy-winning dancehall star Sean Paul.
The track, which was released recently, has already amassed close to hundreds of thousands of views on popular streaming platform
YouTube and is on its way to unlocking even more windows of opportunity for Yung Bredda.
The official music video for the original track has now gained more than 16 million views.
According to the artiste, he’s savouring all the highs as he continues to climb the pinnacles of the industry.
“When you make music, you have expectations, but to be honest with you, all I was doing was work, work, and more work, and hope for the best. I never expected things to happen as quickly as they did. But when you plant good seeds, you reap good food,” he said.
The entertainer said that while there may be a stigma that often pulls Jamaicans and Trinidadians in different directions, he has felt nothing but love from Jamaica.
“I always feel good to be here in Jamaica and to see the fans’ reaction to the music, because I know it has a stigma with Trinidadians and Jamaicans, but to be received and welcomed in Jamaica as one is an amazing feeling. I feel at home,” he said as he vowed to continue thrilling his fans regionally and internationally.
“I still haven’t even scratched the surface because I would like to reach the furthest I can reach with my career. It feels good to know that you do what you love and it rewards you in the best ways. It’s a blessing to be here and to be alive and represent the Caribbean on a global scale,” he said. “I want, of course, all the good things that come with success, the things that will make our lives and our family’s lives comfortable. But, as humans, we can only plan and hopefully execute to the best of our abilities, but the Most High has all our plans, and he alone knows what’s next for me. I’m just working hard and hoping for the best.”
