‘Nothing less than 38 seats’: Comrades confident
KINGSTON, Jamaica – What a difference five years make.
On September 3, 2020, the People’s National Party (PNP) suffered a landslide general election defeat, winning only 14 seats to the ruling Jamaica Labour Party’s 49, against the background of deep divisions within the Opposition party.
However, half a decade later, there seems to be renewed enthusiasm inside the party now united under the leadership of its president, Mark Golding. On Saturday, at the party’s Kingston and St Andrew meeting, the PNP’s final parish rally ahead of the September 3 general election, Comrades expressed confidence in victory at the polls.
“We are winning this one. We are taking it to the Labourites. PNP gone with this one. Not less than 38 seats PNP a win,” one supporter told Observer Online.
He was among the hundreds of Comrades at the rally, which featured fiery speeches from the top brass of the party and performances from dancehall stars Beenie Man and QQ among others.
Former PNP Chairman, Robert Pickersgill expressed optimism over the party’s chances in the election.
“I am very excited. I am very happy… God bless the campaign,” he said.
