WATCH: Bartlett promises end to water woes in St James East Central
St JAMES, Jamaica — The Jamaica Labour Party’s candidate for St James East Central, Edmund Bartlett is promising constituents major improvement in the supply of water to their pipes as a result of the recently-announced $67-billion Western Resilience Water Project.
He gave the commitment while speaking to journalists after being duly nominated as a candidate Monday at the Adelphi Health Centre.
“We have projects for water that must be completed now. That’s the big issue for us in East Central, the water. And with the western water resilience programme that the prime minister announced, we are sure that the water problems… will be solved,” Bartlett said.
Bartlett, who served as tourism minister in the Andrew Holness Administration, also said he is excited about the prospects for jobs in the constituency amid major developments in the tourism industry in the parish.
“We are excited about the development for jobs as I build more hotels and proceed [with] two of the largest hotels that have ever been under construction in the Rose Hall area,” he said.
What’s more, he touted the regularisation of the Grange Pen community in the constituency as a major achievement.
“We just completed the Grange Pen community, which is the first complete community rehabilitation in Jamaica’s history. We have taken it from an informal settlement, created roads, water, sewage, electricity and a proper environment,” Bartlett said.
