UPDATE: Police release names of escapees
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The police have released the names of the eight escapees who are now at large following a major jailbreak at the Constant Spring Police Station lock-up Tuesday morning.
“They cut a door and escaped, we are scouring the area to find them,” a source from the St Andrew North Police Division told Observer Online.
It was initially reported that eight men had escaped ,with seven remaining at large. Police later confirmed, however, that nine prisoners escaped while eight remain at large.
One of them was quickly recaptured by the cops. He is 45-year-old, David Rhoden of Malvern Avenue in Kingston. The other eight, one of whom is wanted for murder, remain at large.
The escapees are:
Alunzo Espute, 19, of 7A Cassava Piece, Kingston, who is wanted for murder (knife);
Brandon Ennis of Belvedere, Red Hills, who is wanted for possession of a prohibited weapon;
Talik Chambers of a Burlington Road address who is wanted for identity theft;
Dorique Douglas of Upper Oxford Street, Kingston.;
Fray Messias of Pinto, Stony Hill who is wanted for rape;
Richard Bishop of Olympic Way, Kingston who is wanted for burglary and larceny;
Junior Anthony Barnes of Iron River, Golden Spring, who is wanted for a prohibited weapon and unauthorised ammunition; and
Kamal Kelly, 25, of Mannings Hill District in Stony Hill, St Andrew who is charged with shooting with intent.
“Immediate measures have been put in place to recapture the remaining escapees. Resources have been deployed islandwide to support the recapture of these individuals. The JCF (Jamaica Constabulary Force) is treating this matter with the highest level of urgency, and all assets are being utilised to return these individuals to custody as swiftly as possible,” the police said in a statement on Tuesday.
The cops are appealing to members of the public who may have information on the whereabouts of the escapees to contact the Constant Spring police at 876-924-1421, police 119 emergency number, anonymously to Crime Stop at 311 or the nearest police station.
Persons are also reminded that it is an offence to harbour criminals.
