Businesswoman among two charged following attack on policeman and family
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A businesswoman is among two people charged in connection with a gun attack on a policeman and his family along the Reading Main Road in Montego Bay, St James, on Saturday, August 9.
Charged are 38-year-old Trafficia Malcolm-Demontagnac, otherwise called “Traff”, a businesswoman of Catherine Hall, St James, and 23-year-old Kadean Nathan, a plumber of Bethel Town, Westmoreland.
Both face charges of murder, wounding with intent, using a prohibited weapon to commit a felony, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit wounding with intent, and conspiracy to use a prohibited weapon to commit a felony.
A third suspect, 24-year-old Orlando Thomas, a carpenter of Argyle Mount, Westmoreland, was fatally shot during a confrontation with the police on Wednesday, August 13.
The attack left 36-year-old Latoya Stephenson, of West Village, St James, dead, while a policeman and a child were hospitalised with gunshot injuries.

Reports are that about 8:45 pm, Stephenson and her family went to the location to collect a key from Thomas. Nathan had driven Thomas to the meeting point. After Stephenson retrieved the key and was returning to her vehicle, Thomas reportedly brandished a firearm and opened fire, hitting her, the policeman and the child. The victims were assisted to hospital, where Stephenson was pronounced dead and the others admitted.
Following investigations, Malcolm-Demontagnac was taken into custody during an operation in Burnt Ground, Ramble, Hanover, on Wednesday, August 13. Nathan later turned himself in to the police on Saturday, August 16.
Both were charged three days later after giving caution statements detailing their involvement in the incident.
A court date is being arranged.
