JCSA demands immediate payment of new salaries for fire brigade drivers, mechanics
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Civil Service Association (JCSA) has given notice of imminent industrial action to be staged unless the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) honours its obligations to pay updated salaries to its drivers and mechanics ‘without excuse or delay’.
In a statement Wednesday, the JCSA said it has been informed that contracted drivers and mechanics employed by the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB) will not be paid their newly adjusted salaries, which came into effect in July 2025, in keeping with agreements between the JCSA and JFB.
“The JCSA is hereby giving formal notice that failure by the JFB to make the required payments on August 25, 2025, will leave the association with no alternative but to call for the withdrawal of service by all affected members until full payment is made,” the association said.
“The JCSA will not accept any delay in the payment of the new salaries. Our members have continued to serve with dedication and commitment, and it is unjust to withhold their lawful earnings. We are demanding that the Jamaica Fire Brigade honour its obligations without excuse or delay,” said JCSA president, Techa Clarke-Griffiths.
The JCSA maintained that it remains committed to representing and defending the rights of its members, and urged the relevant authorities to act swiftly in rectifying it to avoid unnecessary disruption.
