Jamaica’s women set 4x100m Junior Pan-Am Games record
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s women 4x100m team ran a Junior Pan-American Games record 43.51 seconds as Jamaica added two more medals, a gold and a silver, on Thursday’s penultimate day of the track and field in Asuncion, Paraguay.
Both medals came in the relays as the men’s team took silver and Jamaica improved to seven medals— three gold, a silver and three bronze to stay fifth on the medals table.
The women’s team of Sabrina Dockery, Marissa Palmer, Serena Cole and Alana Reid, running from lane seven, lowered the previous record of 43.59 seconds set in 2021.
Trinidad and Tobago were second with 43.89 seconds and Colombia third in 44.01 seconds.
The men’s team of Riquelme Reid, Jehlani Gordon, Odaine Crooks and Nkrumie Bouwahjgie ran 39.21 seconds as they finished behind Colombia, who ran a championship record 38.99 seconds, under the 39.21 seconds set in 2021.
Argentina took the bronze with 39.45 seconds.
Earlier, Jamaica came up short in four other finals; Palmer was fifth in the women’s 200m in 23.54 seconds (0.8m/s) while Alliah Baker was eighth in 23.80 seconds.
Odaine Crooks was sixth in the men’s 200m in 21.02 seconds (0.3m/s), one spot ahead of Sanjay Seymore, who ran 21.07 seconds.
Kimeka Smith threw 14.40m to place fifth in the women’s shot put with Marlakay Lampart sixth with 14.20m, while Machaeda Linton was seventh in the women’s triple jump with 12.59m (1.2m/s).
Also Matthew Sullivan’s 13.87 seconds (0.5m/s) and David Warmington’s 14.21 seconds (0.8m/s), both advanced to Friday’s final of the 110m hurdles.
