Next generation to take helm at Honey Bun
DANIEL Chong will become the chief executive officer (CEO) of Honey Bun Limited effective October 1, 2025.
He will succeed Michelle Chong, who has led the company for more than four decades, transforming it from a small family bakery into one of Jamaica’s most recognised publicly listed brands.
The company made the announcement in a media release on Wednesday.
Daniel, who joined Honey Bun in 2010, has been instrumental in advancing the company’s growth and modernisation. From chief operations officer, he was appointed to the board of directors in 2022 and deputy CEO in 2023. His appointment as CEO was approved at the last board meeting.
Over the years, Daniel has worked closely with the CEO to deliver transformative results.
His contributions include leading the implementation of Microsoft Dynamics ERP software and supporting the automation and digitisation of many core operations.
He has been central to the development of many new products and championed the adoption of internationally acclaimed quality management systems, further strengthening Honey Bun’s reputation for excellence.
Daniel helped secure three of the four properties the company now owns and oversaw the expansion of operations from 10,000 to 42,000 square feet.
He was actively involved in the process of taking Honey Bun public, ensuring compliance and contributing to the many industry awards the company has earned.
A graduate of the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, with an honours degree in civil engineering, Daniel’s track record reflects a deep commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and sustainable growth.
As he prepares to take the helm, Daniel expressed pride in his family’s legacy and optimism for the future.
“I am honoured to lead Honey Bun into its next chapter. My parents’ vision, values, and dedication have shaped the company into what it is today, and I am committed to building on that foundation while pursuing growth and innovation,” said Daniel.
In the meantime, outgoing CEO Michelle Chong, who co-founded the company alongside her husband Herbert, expressed confidence in her successor.
“It has been a privilege to serve as CEO of Honey Bun. Daniel’s deep understanding of the business, combined with his strategic vision, makes him the right leader to guide us into the future,” said Michelle Chong.
