FWCF & Goals for Growth host field day at SOS Children’s Village
ST ANDREW, Jamaica — The Fi We Children Foundation (FWCF), in partnership with Goals for Growth (G4G), hosted a vibrant Field Day at the SOS Children’s Village in Stony Hill, St Andrew on August 16.
Organisers say the initiative brought together children, caregivers and volunteers for a day of fun, sports and community building.
As part of the collaboration, Goals for Growth spearheaded a fundraising drive that successfully secured a new swing set, trampoline and sporting equipment for football, alongside the installation of a new 5×8 goal post.
The event was made even more special with delicious brownies and catered meals provided by Chung’s Catering, ensuring the children were nourished and celebrated.
Executive Founder of Fi We Children Foundation, Africka Stephens, emphasised the importance of such partnerships, stating: “At FWCF, we believe every child deserves access to safe spaces for play, growth and healing. Today’s field day is more than fun— it’s about building resilience, fostering community and showing our children that they are valued. We are deeply grateful to Goals for Growth and SOS Children’s Village for sharing in this vision.”
Co-founder of Goals for Growth, Kellen Crichton, also shared enthusiasm for the project.
“Seeing the smiles on the children’s faces today reinforces why we do what we do. Sports have the power to inspire confidence, teamwork and joy, and we are proud to contribute equipment that will allow children to keep playing and growing,” Crichton said.
Rhaina Jean-Baptiste, fellow co-founder of Goals for Growth, explained the reason for the establishment of their non-profit.
“Goals for Growth was something Kellen and I had been talking about for a while. With summer wrapping up, we knew something like a field day would bring a smile to every child’s face. But we did not want it to just be a momentary feeling, we wanted to create something that would last. Which is what led to building the goal posts and setting up the trampolines. This way, the fun didn’t stop after just one day,” said Jean-Baptiste.
Sean Patrick, funds development and communications advisor at SOS Children’s Village, also highlighted the lasting impact of the initiative.
“Partnerships like this best embody what SOS is about: using the spirit of community to improve the lives of all children. It truly does take a village to raise a child,” Patrick shared.
Looking ahead, FWCF and G4G maintained that they are committed to expanding this initiative to other children’s homes across the island, ensuring that more young people have access to meaningful play and development opportunities.
