Robinson praises senior citizens’ sportsmanship in domino tournament
SIMONE Robinson, tournament co-ordinator, says she was impressed by the discipline and camaraderie displayed by the participants in the National Association of Domino Bodies (NADB)/ National Council for Senior Citizen (NCSC) Domino Tournament in St Elizabeth on Tuesday.
“Based on my observation, I saw that our gentlemen were very engaged and seemed to have been enjoying themselves. They were obedient as they followed all the rules that were outlined, which says to me that my team is a much disciplined team, and that is very important for us,” she said.
Robinson noted that the absence of distractingly loud outbursts or bad behaviour was commendable, highlighting the participants’ ability to maintain a positive and respectful atmosphere throughout the tournament. She was also pleased to see that the participants felt comfortable with each other, despite some not belonging to the same club.
“It showed that camaraderie, and that cohesiveness, and that team effort that they were comfortable playing with each other,” Robinson added.
The duo of Bryon Burke and Franseco Neil took home the championship trophy after an exciting tournament, winning the final 10-9.
Neil expressed his delight with the event.
“The tournament was nice but we should have [been] given more time in order to have more fun. It was wonderful; we want more of this tournament,” he said.
Humbert Davis, president of NADB, also praised the tournament, saying it’s been a huge success, exceeding expectations and with numerous participants and exciting games.
“It’s a great way to promote social interaction, cognitive stimulation, and friendly competition among the seniors,” Davis told the Jamaica Observer.
“I want to thank the Sports Development Foundation for their continued support for domino. They are the backbone in everything we do and I am grateful for their assistance,” Davis added.
