‘Something for my daughter’
Mother resumes building her house after winning $100,000 from Digicel
IN the quiet hillside community of Brandon Hill, St Andrew, 25-year-old Amoya Brown is slowly piecing together her dreams, one block, one length of steel, one bit hope at a time.
Thanks to her $100,000 win from Digicel’s Remix D’Summa promotion, she can now continue building her future home.
Brown remembers the exact moment her phone rang with the news.
“When mi get the call, mi keep on a ask if a real sumn this…mi even call Digicel customer service to double-check,” Brown said, laughing at the memory. “It shows you that God is just an on-time God.”
The young cashier from Stony Hill has faced the constant challenge of balancing work and caring for her 10-month-old daughter, Treasure Wynter, while trying to save enough to buy construction materials. Building her own home has been a dream she began pursuing in 2023.
To make that dream a reality she joined a “pardner” scheme and built little by little, but when she became pregnant, progress slowed, and her focus shifted to preparing for her child. She had been eager to resume construction, and the $100,000 win arrived at just the right time, bringing her one step closer to completing her home.
Of all the moments in her journey so far, seeing the foundation of her home being laid stands out most.
“When the guys were digging the foundation, mi nearly break down cause just seeing everything…like this is exactly what mi supposed to be doing,” Brown recalled.
She describes building her own house is a legacy for her daughter.
“I love to have my own things, and I don’t want to be working and not seeing anything out of it. Now that I’m with child, it’s good to know I’ll have something for my daughter,” declared Brown.
Her dreams don’t stop there. One day, she hopes to return to school and pursue a career in hospitality. For now, she continues the daily grind, raising Treasure and building piece by piece toward her goal.
“Digicel is proud to play a role in stories like this. Amoya called this win ‘an on-time blessing,’ and we couldn’t agree more. Knowing that it will help her pick up where she left off with her home makes us feel like we are truly part of her journey,” said Brithney Clarke, Digicel Jamaica’s public relations manager and marketing business lead.
Brown’s journey is still unfolding, but this win is a reminder that dreams, no matter how slow in coming, are always within reach.
