Guyana politician and social media blogger to face court after physical confrontation
GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) – A Guyanese political candidate and social media commentator at the centre of a widely circulated video showing a confrontation have been released on bail and are set to appear in court on Monday.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) confirmed that social media commentator Mikhail Rodrigues, known as the ‘Guyanese Critic’, and businessman and political candidate Bryan Mackintosh, also called ‘Bryan Max’, were contacted by investigators and are cooperating.
Rodrigues was granted $50,000 bail, while Mackintosh was released on $25,000 bail.
The altercation, which was live-streamed and later circulated on social media, occurred at Rodrigues’ studio after Mackintosh was reportedly invited inside. Mackintosh can be seen being struck to the ground and beaten. He later released photos of his bloodied face.
Mackintosh, who is a candidate with the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) Party, later released photos of his bloodied face, claiming he had been assaulted with firearms after being invited to collect money.
The GPF said investigations into the matter are ongoing and further details will be provided in due course.
