Malahoo Forte promises more meetings with constituents if re-elected
ST JAMES, Jamaica — Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate and incumbent for St James West Central, Marlene Malahoo Forte, has promised constituents they will see a lot more of her if she is re-elected.
“As I go across the constituency, I hear you telling me that you want more time with me. You want to hear about the work that is being done in the Parliament, you want to hear about the work that is being done in the high seat of government, and so my commitment to you for the third term is that I will put a schedule of meetings in place,” she told them.
She was speaking during the launch of the JLP’s manifesto in Montego Bay, St James, Sunday night.
“When we distribute the calendars at the end of the year, you will get ample notice,” she continued.
Malahoo Forte vowed to take the time to explain the issues and how they impact constituents’ lives.
“I realise that you need help to navigate, and I assure you that I will continue to create a path for you so that no one will be turned away from an office of government,” she promised.
“I will meet with you in your communities and I will meet with you in your groups in addition to attending your community development committees and your citizen association meetings and your benevolent society meetings,” Malahoo Forte added.
She also touched on the thorny topic of land ownership within the constituency and outlined some of her plans to address it, if re-elected. She is also Minister of Legal and Constitutional Affairs.
“Right across St James West Central, the issue of land tenure is one of major concern. Already, we have begun the reform of the law to ensure that you can get your titles,” she said.
“Many have received your titles. I assure you that I will simplify the law [to] ensure that you can get your titles, and I will continue to rewrite the laws to ensure that no law is oppressive to you and that you are respected,” she declared.
