Treasure Beach makes winning start to JPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Treasure Beach FC made a winning return to the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) on Sunday after beating fellow promoted team Spanish Town Police FC 2-0 in their game played at the St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) Sports Complex in Santa Cruz.
Treasure Beach, Chapelton Maroons and former champions Waterhouse, all won their opening games while Mt Pleasant FA and Montego Bay United played out a 2-2 draw at Drax Hall.
At STETHS, Treasure Beach FC who were relegated after one season two years ago but returned after finishing runners up to Spanish Town Police in last season’s Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Championships, got a measure of revenge on Sunday.
Shaquille Jones scored in the 63rd minute and Daniel Hardy got the second in time added as Treasure Beach FC, as they did in their first season, got their first win against a fellow promoted club.
At Turners Oval in Chapelton, Leaughn Williams scored the season’s first brace as Chapelton Maroons edged Tivoli Gardens 2-1.
Williams scored the opener in the third minute before Alton Lewis equalised for Tivoli Gardens in the 37th minute but returned to score the winner in the 58th minute.
Mario Simms in the 14th minute and Colorado Murray, who returned to the Drewsland based club, carried Waterhouse to a 2-0 win over Molynes United.
At Drax Hall, Mt Pleasant FA took the lead but had to come from behind to earn a point against Montego Bay United who got goals from two debutants.
Shaquiel Bradford gave the home team the lead in the 18th minute and they led until Jahmari Clarke equalised in the 50th minute and Dwight Merrick gave them the lead two minutes later.
An 81st minute goal from national junior representative Owen Jumpp salvaged a point for Mt Pleasant FA.
