One man fatally shot, another injured by licensed firearm holder during robbery attempt
PORTLAND, Jamaica— A man was fatally shot and another injured during an alleged confrontation with a licensed firearm holder at a business establishment in Hope Bay, Portland on Monday.
The deceased man has been identified as 23-year-old Orlando Beverly of King Western district, St Andrew.
A 9mm pistol and several rounds of ammunition were reportedly seized.
Reports from the Port Antonio police are that about 2:30 am, armed men broke into a business establishment and were challenged by the licensed firearm holder who alarmed the lawmen. When the shooting subsided, two men were found with gunshot wounds. They were reportedly assisted to the hospital where Beverly was pronounced dead and the other being treated.
Eight people were reportedly taken into custody involving the incident, two of which are the mother and sister of the injured man who reportedly attempted to remove him from the parish.
The police say the eight individuals arrested are not from the parish.
