Robinson: PNP’s income tax threshold increase not expected until new fiscal year if it wins election
The People’s National Party (PNP) says its promised raising of the income tax threshold to $3.5 million will probably not be implemented before the 2026-2027 fiscal year, if it wins the General Election on September 3.
Opposition Spokesman on Finance, Julian Robinson made the announcement at the at the launch of its ‘Manifesto Lite’ document on Monday.
“Well we’re currently in the middle of a budget year, and I would say the new fiscal year which would start on April 1 [2026], and so the commitments that have been made would commence – certainly in relation to the tax threshold – at that time,” he informed.
However, Robinson said that a future PNP administration may make adjustments and table supplementary budgets “in terms of how you move expenditures within the current band as has been done in the past”.
“So if you’re moving monies from one ministry to another, you’re required to do a supplementary budget. So that again is a decision that we would make once we get in, but that is a possibility because, as I’ve said, our (the PNP’s) priorities and the programmes are certainly different from what exists with the current government,” Robinson stated.
